What is Dengue Fever?
- Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral infection caused by the dengue virus (DENV) and transmitted through the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes.
- Common in tropical and subtropical regions.
- About 100–400 million infections occur yearly worldwide.
- Many infections are mild, but some progress to severe dengue.

- Also known as “break-bone fever” due to severe body pain.
Symptoms of Dengue Fever
- High fever (up to 40°C / 104°F)
- Severe headache
- Pain behind the eyes
- Muscle, bone, and joint pain
- Nausea and vomiting
Diagnosis of Dengue Fever
- Viral detection tests (PCR/antigen)
- Antibody tests
- Platelet count monitoring
